Life Close to the 3rd Floor

Updated: Jul 6, 2023

Are you growing up? How do you know you are truly growing up? My honest assessment has something to do with one being more independent, taking control of your own life and most importantly taking charge for how you spend your time and energy.

When these things become clear to one, your attention starts to shift, you become more focused on yourself and less on what other people are doing. One funny part is you realize that your friends are stupid and you should have stayed home-on a lighter note!

The 3rd Floor

Am in my late twenties now, ready and eager to climb the 3rd floor. I am not sure if am an adult yet but a few people close to me say I am more. Others have said I am too old for my age but for me I believe am still a work in progress.

I try to live like a surfer every day. Surfers don't control or fight the waves; they ride in the waves. I take a similar approach all the time; I don't control the circumstances of my life, but I control the responses and that is enough.

As always, you are responsible for your thoughts, actions, and emotions. If you don’t like something about your current situation, it’s up to you to change it. Been a parent to two amazing children and a husband to a lovely wife*-they have taught me many lessons and I personally feel I am ready to start my own family. I don't just look forward to it; I yearn for it. I keep calling it-any advice?

Action Kills Anxiety

What I have learnt is when you feel like you don't know what to do just remember that action kills anxiety. Think about the next step and focus on that step, each at a time. I also think individuals should forget about searching for their passion and just focus on doing what excites them instead, that is where passion lies.

If you’re tired of always being the bigger person, stop surrounding yourself with little people. Have expectations from the people around you. People that don’t value your time, energy, and attention aren’t worth it. Relationships aren’t hard, we get it right or wrong either way; we learn become better and focus on what works.

Keep Exploring

Keep exploring, the world, life is that long and the world a big place. I believe you can keep your discovery alive, whether it is that car, a girl or anything else, keep exploring. Become the next Vasco da Gama.

A gym enthusiast like me will tell you, staying fit and healthy is very important. I personally follow a few fitness Instagram accounts, when you are scrolling through and feel insecure about your body or physique, just remember that Everybody is on steroids.

It is important to stay fit but don't focus on comparing your body with unrealistic body image standards. It won't do you any favours. Am at that place where I take it easy in the gym, do what I want and am in control. I would love to be fit even at 100 years-if I live that long.

Your age isn’t how old you are. It’s how flexible you are.

Am self-aware, I believe in taking one red pill at a time. I know everyone is going to be cancelled like Trump and Joe Regan but I hold on the view that we don't need more critics looking for toxic traits in others. We need more self-awareness.

I have wanted to be right, right in everything I do but as I get closer to the 3rd floor, I have learnt that we all make mistakes. We all eventually make mistakes but what counts is what we do next. I have made mistakes, acknowledged, apologized, rectified and then moved on.

My advice to anyone in his/her early 20s, put yourself in positions that allow you to make mistakes and learn and live. Pull yourself from environments that don't.

I hope every year I get to write this blessing, to help you know it is a year of many lessons, mistakes, breakthroughs and great experiences.
